The next East Tennessee Section Meeting will be held on Monday, May 19th, at the Gondolier restaurant on Briarcliff Ave. in Oak Ridge.

Time: 5:45 PM
Presentation: Redefining ES&H, Inc. Corporate Infrastructure Speaker will begin at approximately 6:20 PM.

Guest speaker will be Mr. Joseph Hawk. Mr. Hawk is a Civil Engineer with twenty-five years of experience in the planning, management, execution, and control of a wide variety of engineering, construction, and demolition projects. He is a native of Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Lafayette College in 1983. He relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1986 to support TVA's nuclear restart program and earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1992. Mr. Hawk has been a member of the ES&H, Inc. Team since January 2006 and currently serves as their engineering group manager.

Election results

The online voting period has ended, and new officers have been elected for the East Tennessee Section. A total of 31 votes were tallied, which represented over 24% of our 127-member section. The individuals taking office on June 1 will be assuming the responsibility for continuing to make the Section a valuable resource to its members and to the Cost Engineering community at large.

Certification testing in the Knoxville area

Todd Corwin, ETS Director of Education, tells us that the East Tennessee Section is one of the hosts for the AACEI Certification Exams to be held on June 14, 2008. The deadline for early registration is Monday, May 5th. Details for the test location in Oak Ridge, TN will be provided to the applicants by email.

Exams include Certified Cost Engineer/Consultant, Earned Value Professional, Planning and Scheduling Professional, and Certified Forensic Claims Consultant Engineer. See www.aacei.org for details and applications for the certification exams.

Planner and Scheduler positions available

Keith Hunsaker with Think Energy Group tells us that they have some positions to fill in the Nuclear Plant Planner and Scheduler area. The location is northern Indiana or Michigan. Interested parties should visit their website.

Construction Claims Seminar

The East Tennessee Section is hosting a 2-day Construction Claims Seminar on May 15-16. We are very fortunate to have Jim Zack, CFCC as the instructor (bio). A flyer is available for more information about the class, and online registration is available.

Joint AACEI/PMI meeting

The annual joint meeting with the local chapter of PMI will be on Tuesday, April 22. It will be a luncheon from 11:30-1:00 at the Doubletree Hotel in Oak Ridge.

The Section will be subsidizing the cost of the luncheon to it's members, so the cost to attendees will only be $15. To attend the meeting, RSVP to Tammi Hodges by April 16. We have to guarantee the headcount to the hotel, so everyone RSVPing is expected to pay, even if they miss the meeting. Expect good food.

The guest speaker will be John Atwell (bio), Engineering Manager for the Watts Bar Unit 2 Construction Completion Project. Mr. Atwell will be speaking on Watts Bar Unit 2 and the future of the Nuclear Power Industry.

Cost Engineering opportunities in Mississippi

Daniel Bell says: KAP Project Services is looking for Cost Engineers (3) who can perform Cost engineering on refinery projects and Turnarounds in Mississippi. The position involves multiple projects and turnarounds and will run for 1 year+. High level knowledge in use of PC operation, spreadsheet and database software, cost control applications plus data manipulation and integration with scheduling and work processing packages.

Project Controls Positions in Knoxville

Position available range from entry to senior level. Positions require a degree in engineering, business or construction related fields or equivalent training and/or experience.
